WIKLIGE

Influence of extreme weather events in climate change on human health

The WIKLIGE project investigates the influence of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) upon human health. The UTCI describes the thermal stress for humans. The connection between UTCI and the causes of death and UTCI and hospital admissions will be modeled with spatio-temporal statistics for Bavaria. The hospital admissions to “München rechts der Isar” will be investigated with more details. The temporal delayed effects of the UTCI on the hospital admission and additional confounders which are not easy to collect for hovel Bavaria will be considered.

In every analysis the cases with external causes (ICD10: S00-T98) will be modeled separately, because these causes are excluded often in comparable studies. Hospital admissions and causes of death with external causes are often connected to some kind of accident. To consider accidents more closely the numbers of traffic accidents for Bavaria are modeled with spatio-temporal statistics.

WIKLIGE is part of the joint project “Klimawandel und Gesundheit” in Bavaria (VKG), it is funded by the Bayerischen Staatsministerien für Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz (StMUV) sowie für Gesundheit und Pflege (StMGP) and supported by “Bayerisches Landesamt für Gesundheit und Lebensmittelsicherheit".
